MR. AMEREST TERRELL GERRELL, age 85, of the Fairview Community, Demorest, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in White County, Georgia on May 01, 1927, Mr. Gerrell was a son of the late John Singleton & Anner Lou Nelms Gerrell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having proudly served his country in the Big Red 1 18th Infantry. Mr. Gerrell was retired after several years of service with the Habersham County Medical Center. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with anything mechanical and designing numerous homemade inventions. Mr. Gerrell also enjoyed fishing trips, planting vegetables in his garden, and playing horseshoes. Affectionately known as Grandpa/Pappy, his warm smile, quick wit, and generous heart will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Candis Marshalene Fortenberry Gerrell, brothers, E.C. Gerrell, Harold Gerrell, Lowell Gerrell, sisters, Willene Knight, and Nell Ivester.
Survivors include his children, Renae G. & Michael House, Demorest, GA; Jeff & Shellie Gerrell, Cleveland, GA; sisters, Mary Simmemon, Demorest, GA; Annie Bell Wade, Alto, GA; grandchildren, Natasha & Kasey McEntire, Demorest, GA; Travis House, Demorest, GA; & fiancé, Cassie Hansen, Clayton, GA; Madison Gerrell, Malia Gerrell, Brayden Gerrell, Owen Gerrell, all of Cleveland, GA; great-granddaughters, Payton McEntire, Rowan Hansen, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & a host of friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 03, 2013 at the Return Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
