Betty Jean McConnell Underwood, age 80, of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at her residence.
Born in Habersham County on July 1, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Paul Abernathy McConnell, Sr. and Emma Inez Cash McConnell. Mrs. Underwood was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was retired from Carwood Manufacturing with 40 years of service. She always enjoyed being surrounded by her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Underwood was also preceded in death by her husband, Buford Lee Underwood; brothers, Paul Abernathy McConnell, Jr., Frank McConnell, infant brother, Marvin McConnell; sister, Willie Mae McConnell.
Survivors include brothers, William McConnell of Clarkesville, Tom McConnell of Cornelia and Louie McConnell of Mt. Airy; sisters, Mable McAllister, Annie Loudermilk and Lois McConnell all of Mt. Airy; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, July 13, 2014, at New Hope Baptist Church with Revs. Chris York, Johnny Loudermilk and Jason Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
