Bobby Henry Abernathy, Sr., age 69 of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at his residence.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on July 19, 1948, he was a son of the late Henry Abernathy and the late Hazel Lee Chastain Scroggs. Mr. Abernathy was retired from the City of Cornelia as a Building & Grounds Supervisor with 16 years of dedicated service. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Fay Abernathy, brother, Terry Simmons, infant sister, Baby Abernathy, and granddaughter, Christy Chastain.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Posten Abernathy of Cornelia, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Henry Abernathy, Jr. & Gwinda Abernathy of Sterrett, AL; daughters & son-in-law, Michelle Lewallen of Clarkesville, GA; Patricia Abernathy of Homer, GA; Hazel & Eddie Sanders of Stephens, GA; brothers, Ronnie Abernathy, Stanley Abernathy, Jeff Abernathy, all of Dahlonega, GA; Michael Simmons of Mt. Airy, GA; Kenneth Simmons, Julian “Jake” Simmons Dennis Scroggs, all of Toccoa, GA; Johnny Scroggs of Eastanollee, GA; sisters, Pam Abernathy, Tammy Abernathy, both of Dahlonega, GA; Lorie Samples of Tennessee; Patricia Turner of Toccoa, GA; Rebecca Spencer of Lavonia, GA; Sandra Molinaro of Clarkesville, GA; Deborah Crewe of Royston, GA; Libby Simmons of Toccoa, GA; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Level Grove Cemetery with Mr. Eddie Sanders officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
