Carl Loudermilk

May 16, 1929 — December 13, 2012

Carl Fletcher Loudermilk, age 83, of 387 Carl Loudermilk Road, Mt. Airy, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2012. He passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Hester Jane Gibby Loudermilk. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Pitts Loudermilk and his daughter, Maxine McDuffie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
As a native of Habersham County his entire life, this beloved daddy and papa was an avid farmer who loved gardening and raising his pigs. He is best known for his simple ways in life, his overalls, and plowing with his mule. He is the last of an era where a man’s handshake and a man’s word were enough. Mr. Loudermilk retired from the Habersham County Road Department, where he met many life-long friends. He was a member of Chopped Oak Baptist Church in Clarkesville, Georgia. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Exie Nelms Burrell Loudermilk of Mt. Airy; five children: Wilma and Roger Ansley of Cornelia, Carl Jr. and Valerie Loudermilk of Demorest, Lamar and Amanda Loudermilk of Mt. Airy, David Loudermilk of Mt. Airy, and Carol Ann Loudermilk of Cleveland. He is also survived by his five stepchildren: Larry and Jackie Burrell of Cornelia, Doug and Brenda Burrell of Baldwin, Ronnie Burrell of Dawsonville, Ronnie and Laura Jane Harrison of Eastanollee, and Herbert and Cathy Burrell of Lavonia. He is survived by 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Chapel with Rev. William Baker and Rev. Lloyd Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Billy Burrell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
“Eh Lordy,” Carl has gone home to be with the Lord.
