Clyde Stamey

Clyde A. Stamey, age 75 of Clarkesville, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Habersham County on April 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Claude Charles and Mamie Allen Stamey.Mr. Stamey spent 41 years in law enforcement and retired from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute as a correctional officer. During his 41 year tenure, he was Chief of Police for Baldwin Police Deparmtent, Chief Deputy for Cornelia Police Department and Chief Deputy for Habersham County. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, surfing the Internet and gardening. He also enjoyed meeting and socializing with people and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Holbrooks Stamey; sisters, Margaret Wilbanks; brother, Charles Stamey.

Surviving are daughter, Betty Arrowood of Demorest; sons, Michael Stamey of Baldwin and Calvin Stamey of Mt Airy; sisters, Frances Trotter of Clarkesville, Lois Zaccaginno of Lompoc, CA, Vera Roberts of Mt Airy and Imogene Dawkins of Gainesville; brother, Johnny Stamey of Demorest; grandchildren, Justin Anderson of Demorest, Allison Stamey of Mt Airy and Jonathan Arrowood of Demorest; great grandchildren, Mason Chandler Ruark, Dalton Cobb and Gabriel James Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Walter Singletary and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating.Interment will follow in VFW Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the Habersham American Legion Post #84.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Tuesday.The family is at the residence.
