Doris Geneva Smith Blackburn, born on October 29, 1940, in Mount Airy, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025. She lived a life enriched by family, love, and a deep commitment to her community and profession.
Doris devoted a significant portion of her career to Carwood Mfg. and Yonah Realty, where she was a supervisor who demonstrated an unwavering dedication and commitment.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Doris was an active member of Good News Baptist Church, where she derived much joy from her faith and fellowship with her church community. She also enjoyed quilting, a hobby that showcased her creativity and attention to detail.
Doris is survived by her loving family, including her daughter Christy Parr Bentley and son-in-law Donald, her granddaughter Felisha Parr Gailey Wood and son-in-law Cory, and her grandsons Dylan Marshall Parr and Joshua Matthew Parr. She took great pride in her five great grandchildren, whose laughter and spirit brightened her days. She is also survived by her sisters Glenda Dotson and brother-in-law Dywane, Juanita Garrett, and Betty Massey.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Fay Blackburn, her parents, Loyd Smith and Geneva Weaver Smith, her son-in-law David Parr, and her brother J.L. Smith, and her sisters Pauline Koehler and Linda Grace Smith.
Visitation services for Doris will be held at McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a second visitation on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on Thursday, in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Doris will be remembered for her love of family, her unwavering spirit, and her compassionate nature. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
