Douglas Carter Davidson, age 90, of Turnerville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
Born on May 7, 1923 in Turnerville, Georgia, he was a son of the late Dolph Columbus Davidson and Annie Cleo Dawkins Davidson. Mr. Davidson attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a World War II, U.S. Army Air Corp veteran. He was previously employed as generating plant operator for Georgia Power Co., founder of Davidson Well Boring as well as a poultry farmer. He was a member of the VFW, Georgia Power Ambassadors and the H.U.M.P. Pilots Association.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davidson was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Dockter; second wife, Hazel Geneva Crisp; brother, Thomas Wyatt Davidson; sisters, Annie Ruth Ivester and Dorothy “Dot” Hardman; special longtime friend, Ethel Young.
Survivors include daughter, Linda Ann Davidson; daughter and son-in-law, Debra Whiting and Johnny of Turnerville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Joyce Davidson; Eddie and Rita Davidson all of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Norma Davidson of Turnerville; grandchildren, Tracy Davidson Marsengill, Chris Davidson, Casey Whiting, Niki Whiting Smith, Wesly Davidson, Kelli Davidson, Chad Davidson and Cassidy Davidson; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; David Ivester, P.T.
Funeral services are 2 pm on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Turnerville with Linda Sisk and Ronald Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Bill Gravely officiating and full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the Georgia National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Saturday and 2-5 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
