Ellene Smith Holbrooks, age 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015.
Born in Mt. Airy, Georgia on April 6, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Nellie Bell Mote Smith. Mrs. Holbrooks was a homemaker who attended Community Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was famous for her cooking, especially her sausage biscuits and pies.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Holbrooks; son, William Lee Holbrooks; daughter-in-law, Pam Holbrooks; son-in-law, John Lockman; brother, J.E. Smith; great grandson, Cody Holbrooks.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Tommy Taylor of Demorest, Margaret Lockman of Mt. Airy, Lorene Case of Clarkesville and Dorothy and Ricky Ray Taylor of Demorest; sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Holbrooks of Mt. Airy and Gladys and Newton Phillips of Toccoa; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are 3:00 pm Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Charles Phillips and Rev. Charles Black officiating. Interment will follow in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Friday and from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
