Gaines M. Taylor, age 83 of Clarkesville, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on July 26, 1934, he was a son of the late Dock J. and Sallie McClure Taylor. Mr. Taylor proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired with rank of Master Sergeant after 26 years of dedicated service. Over the years, he was stationed in Korea and Germany and served two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. He was also a member of the Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F&AM, as well as New Liberty United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting knives and travelling.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Taylor; brothers, Ben P. Taylor Sr., Leon Taylor and James Taylor.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Morrison Taylor of Clarkesville; special nieces and nephews, Wanda and Wayne Thompson of Cornelia and Brenda and Sammy Franklin of Mt. Airy; numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial graveside services are 11 am Thursday, December 28, 2017 at New Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery.
