George Telford

George Dean Telford, age 92, of Cornelia, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
Born on November 25, 1920, in White County, he was a son of the late James Harvey and Neil Kenimer Telford. Mr. Telford was retired as Vice President of Community Bank & Trust with many years of service and was also a 50 year member of the Georgia Banking Association. He was a US Army Air Corps WWII veteran and was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church. He was the oldest living member of the Community Bank & Trust Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors for Community Bank Shares Inc. and Financial Supermarket. Mr. Telford was also a longtime member of the Cornelia Kiwanis Club, past Financial Director of Cornelia United Methodist Church, a former Habersham County School Board member, as well as a member of the Lanier Bridge Club. He was also an avid University of Georgia football fan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Telford was also preceded in death by his beloved sons, George Dean Telford, Jr. and Joseph Richard Telford; brothers, Joe and James Telford; sister, Janie O’Kelley.
Survivors include wife of 66 years, Sibyl Blair Telford of Cornelia; daughter & son-in-law, Beth and Hugh Long of Griffin, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Edith Telford Williams of Cleveland; grandchildren & spouses, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Joe & Crystal Telford of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Kelley Telford of Watkinsville, Tony & Anta Long of Jacksonville, Florida and Christy & Bryan Garner of Griffin, Georgia; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Matthewson, Tanner Burford, Dean Long, Jessica Long and Austin Garner; brother, Gordon Telford of Toccoa; sister, Betty Highsmith of Cleveland.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Cornelia United Methodist Church with Dr. Jay Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Friday.
