Herman "Phillip" Nations

Herman “Phillip” Nations, age 87, of Hollywood, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Born on December 23, 1936, in Clarkesville, he was a son of the late Ernest William Nations, Sr. and Mary Edna Williams Nations. He attended church at Antioch Holiness Church in Lula and Turnerville Church of God. Mr. Nations served honorably in the United States Army and retired from General Motors. He was a dedicated husband, father, “Papa”, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved to work in his gardens, go to auctions, and spend time with his grandchildren. Mr. Nations led by example with his hard work, commitment to his family, and generosity towards his community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest Nations, Jr. and Carlos Nations; sister, Jo Ann Nations Moore; brothers-in-law: J.W. Rice, Dewayne Forlines, and Bobby Moore; and sister-in-law, Jean Allen Nations.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Vivian Garmon Nations of Hollywood; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Joe “Joey” and Barbara Stewart Nations of Cornelia and Tony “Jason” and Rachel Pittman Nations of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Mary “Tonya” Nations and Thala “Ty” Phongsavanh of Cumming; grandchildren: Hannah Danielle, Samuel Mark, Isaac Thomas, Chase Kham, Asher Mikhail, Jayden Phillip, Zachary Thala, Merrick Christian, and Leah Kate; sisters: Oveline Nations Rice, Evelyn Nations Forlines, and Barbara Nations Mote; brother-in-law, Ronald Mote; and sister-in-law, Lois Mote Nations.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Roby Woody and Rev. Bob Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Turnerville Church of God Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Garmon officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Grant-Reeves Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the funeral home.
