James William “Jimmy” Hurt, age 85, of Cornelia, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Born on June 11, 1937, in Mt. Airy, he was a son of the late James Clarence “JC” Hurt and Ollie James Hurt. Mr. Hurt was a heavy equipment hauler and of the Baptist faith. He was recognized by his family as a “jack of all trades” and loved working outside, playing the guitar, singing, and camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Lee Hurt and sons-in-law, Kim Lawson and Terry Osborn. He was the last of seven siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Janice L. Hurt of Cornelia; daughters and son-in-law: Elaine and Wayne Higgins, Cathy Hurt Lawson, and Myra Osborn, all of Cornelia; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Pruitt Health Hospice for their excellent care.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 20, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Austin Kelley and Rev. Danny O’Kelly officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-10:30 am on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the funeral home.
