John Walter Long, age 78 of Cornelia, Georgia took his heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2024.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina on February 09, 1946, he was the son of the late John Thomas & Hazel Inez Mantooth Long. John was a hardworking man who could fix anything. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming his land and was an avid fisherman. Most of all, John loved spending precious time with his family. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Lovell, Mary Brewer, & Susie Booth.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sharea Harrison Long of Cornelia, GA; children & their spouses, Rodney (Michelle) Long; Leah (David) MacNellis; Wendy (Dwayne) Tedder all of Cornelia, GA; Cindy (Erin) Long of Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Benjamin Long, Jonathan (Morgan) Long, Michael (Ashley) Long, Jordan Stewart, Harrison (Holly) MacNellis, Hudson MacNellis, Patrick Tedder, Katie Tedder, & Jillian Tedder; great-grandson, Sam Long; & mother-in-law, Jane Ivie Murray of Baldwin, GA.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Dr. Brian James & Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
