Joyce H. Payne, age 76 of Cornelia, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County, GA on October 24, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lois Yearwood Holbrook. Mrs. Payne was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a retired seamstress having worked with Carwood Manufacturing and International Outerwear. She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching soap operas, flowers, shopping, hummingbirds and was an avid broach collector. Mrs. Payne also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Payne was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Morris “Phil” Payne; sister, Louise Bowen; brothers, Rev. Donald Holbrook, Horace Holbrook, Harold Holbrook and John Lewis “Jack” Holbrook.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Jeff Williams of Alto and Angela and Ken Gould of Cornelia; sisters, Audrey Hulsey of Mt. Airy and Juanita Partin of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Amber Jackson and husband Joshua of Lula and Adam Bradshaw of Franklin County; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Johnny Stone and Rev. Gary Heffner officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday and from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
