Laverne Stephens Hurt affectionately known by family and friends as “Me-Ma”, age 86 of Mt. Airy, GA, passed away Friday, April 01, 2011, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Hurt was a native and life long resident of Habersham County. She was born in Habersham County on July 24, 1924, to the late Bernice Payne Stephens and Buren Stephens.Mrs. Hurt had worked as a seamstress for Carwood Manufacturing and B&C Cleaners. For many years Mrs. Hurt was a very active member of Hazel Creek Baptist church and was a member of the Mens and Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hurt was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Clyde Everette Hurt; sisters, Lillian Casey, Pearline Morris; Brothers, Melvin Stephens, B. V. Stephens; a niece, Jeanette Dixon and great-niece, Renee Dixon.
Surviving are her daughter, Annette Hurt Ramey (Donald) of the Mt Airy; sons, Wendell Hurt (Susan) and L.C. Hurt (Launia) both of Mt Airy; sister, Martha Hicks of Winterville; brothers, Clayton Stephens of Homer, J.B. Stephens of Cornelia; grandsons, Brady Hurt(Sonya), Adam Ramey(Jade); great grandchildren, Gage & Trey Hurt, Landon Ramey and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 04, 2011 at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Smith, Rev. Billy Burrell, Rev. Matt Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Johnny Loudermilk officiating.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 pm on Saturday and 4-8 pm on Sunday.
