Maezell Hix Martin

August 12, 1931 — April 2, 2014

Mazell Hix Martin, age 82, of Alto, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on August 12, 1931 in Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Clara Loggins Hix. Mrs. Martin was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and was retired from J.C. Penny’s Distribution Center and Scenic View Healthcare. She was a very hard worker who also enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening and feeding humming birds. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was excited about being a great-great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lawrence Martin; brothers, Rev. Woodrow, Paul, Guy and Cohen Hix.
Survivors include daughter, Belinda Jones of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Cathy Martin of Locust Grove, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dorsey Haynes of Alto; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Silas and Alice Hix of Lula and J.C. and Glenda Hix of Alto; grandchildren, Misty Maloch(Chris) of Locust Grove, Georgia, Tiffanie Pittington(Ron) of Hampton, Georgia, Rebecca DeAnn Stewart and Samantha Stewart both of Alto; six great granddaughters, three great grandsons and one great-great grandchild on the way.
Funeral services are 4:00 pm Friday, April 4, 2014, at Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell and Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in Living Mission United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
