Mary Mize Underwood, age 80 of Cornelia, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born April 30, 1931 in White County, she was a daughter of the late Ross Lee and Hallie Dorsey Mize. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Underwood; infant sister, Winnie Mize; and brothers, Charles and Lee Mize.
Mrs. Underwood was a member of White Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, decorating and cooking. She also operated a home daycare that many of her children referred to as “Memaw’s Playhouse.”
Survivors include her daughter, Delynda “Dee” Stavely of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Stan & Susie Underwood and Milt & Joan Underwood of Cornelia, Jeff & Nancy Underwood of Demorest; sister, Shirley Fain of Sautee; brothers, Eugene Mize of Panama City, Fl, Herman Mize of Sautee, Gerald Mize of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, April 30, 2012, at White Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Lewis Fortner, Rev. Pete Martin and Rev. Farrell Presley officiating. Interment will follow in VFW Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
