Opal Louise Evans Thomas Sanford, age 82, of Cornelia, GA passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at her residence.

Born in Coeburn, VA on July 2, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Dewey McDaniel Evans and Dollie Louise Hall Evans. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanford was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Lewis Thomas; second husband, Clyde Alvin Sanford; stepmother, Ola Ruth McClellan Evans; three brothers and two half-brothers.

Mrs. Sanford was a homemaker and attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Louise Thomas Miller and husband John, Newton, NC, Pamela Darlene Thomas Cantrell and husband Dale, Cornelia, and Dara Rhene Thomas Coltrane and husband Steve, Archdale, NC; daughter, Deborah Denise Thomas Darnell, Lexington, NC; son, Farrell Roger Thomas and wife Lula Mae, Chatsworth, GA; sister, Joyce Angelene Evans Johnson, and half-sister, Sandra Page, both of St. Paul, VA; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 1:00 pm Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Chaplain Jeffrey Brookshire officiating. Interment will follow on Saturday at Spring Place Memorial Cemetery in Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
