Ray Walter Porterfield, age 61, of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on July 20, 1952, in Clarke County, he was a son of the late Ernest and Doris Hill Porterfield. Mr. Porterfield was a US Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Porterfield was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Glenn Porterfield; brothers, William Douglas Porterfield, Allen Mark Porterfield; one step granddaughter; two step great grandsons; nephew, Darren Whitley.
Survivors include wife, Peggy Porterfield of Mt. Airy; daughter, LaKeeta Porterfield of Demorest; step daughter, Sabrina Canup of Turnerville; step son, Larry McMillian of Hartwell; step daughter, Tammy Renee Lance of Hayesville, NC; sisters, Diane Whitley of Arcade, Cindy Johnson of Mt. Airy, Kay Kennedy of Mt. Airy, Betty Jean Seabolt of Demorest and Pam Anderson of Cornelia; brothers, Ronald Ernest Porterfield of Clarkesville and Ernest Daniel Porterfield of Cornelia; granddaughter, Ka’Bren Porterfield; 12 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 4:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Bill Trotter and Rev. Kenneth Pilcher officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until 3:30 pm on Saturday prior to the service.
