Rev. Chester Gragg

Rev. Chester Thomas Gragg, age 87, of Clarkesville, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024.

Born on February 15, 1936, in Clayton, he was a son of the late Chester Edmond Gragg and Rhoda Susan Owensby Gragg. Rev. Gragg was a pastor for 62 years, serving a total of nine churches in Georgia and North Carolina, and was currently a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Additionally, he had a career with Schnadig that spanned 34 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, and spending time on the farm. Rev. Gragg loved those around him, especially his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Lynn Deyton; brothers and sister-in-law, Douglas C. “Doug” Gragg, Herman Gragg (Louise), Calvin Gragg; sister, Carolyn “Dottie” Cook; brother-in-law, Terrell Gragg.

Survivors include wife of 68 years, Stella Holcomb Gragg of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Keith Gragg (Sherri) of Hayesville, North Carolina; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharlotte Vandiver (Brian) of Carnesville, Karen Hunt (Bruce) of Clarkesville, and Cindy Brady (Bo) of Baldwin; grandchildren, Wyatt Clarkson, Jessica Bragg, Jamie Chastain, Sarah Thomas, Stephen Thomas, Carmon Brady, and Ashlynn Brady; seven great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Gragg (Hilda) of Clarkesville, Lonnie Gragg of Suffolk, Virginia, David Gragg of Gainesville, and Raymond Gragg (Beverly)of DeRidder, Louisiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora Lee Gragg of Lakemont, Kathleen Lovell (Dale) of Clarkesville, Geraldine Smith (Earl) of Demorest, and Joy Poole (Doug) of Baldwin; sister-in-law, Kathy Gragg of Cornelia; brother-in-law, Bobby Cook of Alto; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are 2 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Ronnie Powell, Mr. Mike Gribble, and Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 5-8 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the funeral home.
