Shirley Jean Tankersley Washington, age 70 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, March 01, 2013, at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Cherokee, NC on August 01, 1942, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Jeanette Ballew Tankersley. Mrs. Washington was a member of Old Nacoochee Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Washington was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Billingsley.
Survivors include husband, Eugene Washington of Mt. Airy; son, James Washington of Toccoa; daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and Tony Cody of Mt. Airy and Tina and Thomas Griffin of Clarkesville; brother, Paul Tankersley of Jackson, GA; sisters, Rachel Wooldridge of Conyers, Carolyn Pettus of Gastonia, NC and Ruby Murphy of Stockbridge, GA; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Monday, March 04, 2013, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Greg Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in Old Nacoochee Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Saturday and from 5-9 pm on Sunday.
