Sylvan “Van” Grier, age 76, of Alto, GA, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011.
Born on April 1, 1936, in Hall County, GA, he was a son of the late Alvin and Belle Armour Grier.Mr. Grier was a member of Yonah Congregational Holiness Church and was retired from Gold Kist Inc. He enjoyed making canes and reading his Bible. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Grier; sister, Dorothy Ward; brothers, A.M Grier, Dillard “Bud” Grier, Otis “ Preach” Grier, Wiley Grier.
Survivors include his sons; Gary Grier, of Homer, Michael Grier of Homer, Kenneth Grier of Cleveland; sisters, Geraldine Grier of Alto, Ruth Swann of Clifton Ford, VA; brothers, Junior Grier of Alto, E.D. Grier of Alto, Lemuel Grier of Newnan, Roy Grier of Alto, Garnett Grier of Lula; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Yonah Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. John Umberhant officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Garmon officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9 pm on Friday.
