Walter Owen Griswell

Walter Owen Griswell, age 94 of Cornelia, Georgia, formerly of Chamblee, Georgia passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Born in Grove Park, Georgia, Fulton County on February 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Rufus & Louise Owen Griswell. Walt was Postmaster for the United States Postal Service and retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and served as Music Director for many years with University Baptist, Clairmont Baptist, & North Peachtree Baptist Church. The loves of his life were his family, singing, and traveling, as well as the many friends he met throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Lavonia Lee Bishop Griswell; son, Alan Griswell and son-in-law, Rodney Holden.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lena Marlow Griswell; son & daughter-in-law, Guy & Jan Griswell of Toccoa, GA; daughters & son-in-law, Gale & David Little of Parrish, FL; Margaret Holden of Buford, GA; grandchildren, Andrea & Lee Chitwood; Staci & Mark Dean; Joy Guzman, Jason & Tiffany Holden; Christopher & Ashley Little; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home with Mr. Guy Griswell officiating. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 01, 2025 at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Atlanta with Rev. Lee Chitwood officiating at the graveside.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour on Friday, February 28, 2025.
