William Maxwell "Max" King

August 8, 1922 — October 6, 2019

William Maxwell “Max” King, age 97 of Alto, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on August 8, to the late Peter Lambert and Recie Martin King. He retired from the maintenance department with Fieldale Farms after many years of service. Mr. King enjoyed farming as long as he could and worked as a saw miller. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for a number of years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Thomas King; daughters, Frances King Kinsey and Nancy Jean King; brothers, Lem King, Edward King, Allen King, Oscar King and Amos King; son-in-law, Jerry Ledford.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, William & Shirley King, Dennis & Kathy King, Jimmy & Karen King, David & Kimberly King all of Alto, Wesley & Cindy King of Commerce, Phil & Terry King of Milton, Florida; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Tolbert of Lavonia, Ruth Evans of Hartwell, Grace Ledford of Clarkesville, Christine Martin of Alto, Mary & Jerry Harbin of Hartwell, Anna & Thomas Fowler of Demorest, Amanda & David Seabolt of Gainesville; 82 grandchildren; 117 great-grandchildren; 36 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth King Grier and Gervis King Taylor both of Alto.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Level Grove Baptist Church with Mr. Danny Brooks, Pastor Wes King, Pastor Cody Kelley and Pastor Robert Hill, II officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home.
